FAC International Residency

May 2015

Toronto, Canada

Feminist Art Collective (FAC) Toronto is a not-for-profit organisation committed to the support, collaboration and networking of feminist artists. Its community of artists, academics, writers and social justice feminists sustains a platform for a range of activities: exhibitions, residencies, publications and public events. The FAC mandate is to unlearn colonial histories and to collaborate on the design of our rematriated futures.

The FAC International Artists Residency is a two-week program on the Toronto Islands that explores social justice issues with a feminist lens. The inaugural residency in 2015 was an intensive live-in fortnight that included individual studio time accented with group discussions, readings, video, reflection, guest speakers, group and individual critiques, and gallery/exhibition tours.

RESIDENCY EXHIBITIONS

The resulting work was presented in the 'Open Studio Exhibition' at Artscape Gilbraltar Point at the end of the residency. A second exhibition of residents work—Looking Forward, Looking Back—was held later in the year at the FAC Annual Conference at Great Hall, OCADU in Toronto, .
