Master's Exhibition

5–11 December 2011
VCA School of Art // University of Melbourne

Annual exhibition presenting works from graduating students from the Master of Contemporary Art and the Master of Fine Art at the VCA School of Art. This body of work was created during the MFA program at Victorian College of the Arts 2010/11 and sits alongside a written thesis entitled 'Placing the Body – Towards a Subjectivity of the Feminine in Sculpture'

The research explores feminine subjectivity through a materially charge practice of craft-based, spatial forms.  Drawing on the work of Luce Irigaray, the sculptures materialise architectural forms and spaces that deploy mechanisms of repetition, haptic surfaces and the aesthetics of industrial materials. This creative research project argues the importance of minimalism, materiality and spatial metaphor to conceptions of the feminine, in short the reattribution of the body itself, into contemporary art discourse.
